Can I upgrade my laptop’s graphics card?

I have an Acer Extensa 4420 with an ATI Radeon x1250 graphics card. I purchased Assassin’s Creed at a Black Friday sale, and discovered that the graphics card is not up to their standard (I can play Guild Wars and Dragon Age just fine). I get sound, no video. Have updated my software, tried all the troubleshooting I could find, but I think I may need a new card. I e-mailed Acer and they told me…

“It is preferred that you keep to the original configuration of your system so that all the programs and applications in your computer will recognize all the hardware installed in it. Please be advised that any changes or upgrades to the original configuration of the system are done so at the sole risk of you the end user.”

…which really isn’t an answer.

Any ideas? Thanks.

you cannot change the graphics card on a laptop. it is integrated into the motherboard. whilst on a technical level it is possible, it can only be attempted by a qualified computer tech with electronics experience. laptop graphics are not manufactured with upgrades in mind. if you want better graphics, with the option for future upgrades, then you absolutely have to have a good desktop computer. i have made desktops for the last 6 years, and any desktop i have ever made has the ability to be upgraded for many years, unlike laptops, which at best, are defunct within 4 years.
hope this answers your question.
