What’s the best way to create a river in my terrarium?

I have an exo terra glass terrarium 60x45x60 (24″x18″x24″) housing my new chinese water dragon. I want to create a river feature to make Spike happy as well as something nice to look at. Does anyone have any advice on how to create a professional looking piece without too much messing around? My best idea so far involves getting a sheet of damp proofing, stapling some thick branches cut into a half moon shape to the edges to create walls, and then just using gravel to cover the bottom and the damp proofing for a kind of river bed. Lots of messing about though.
Sorry, forgot to mention that i do have the large exo terra waterfall which I also plan to get an ultrasonic fog generator for. As for the pump, the water will need to be filtered so I will use the filter as the pump.
The waterfall alone isn’t suitable for a chinese water dragon as the water dragon needs to be able to swim in the water and it needs to be deep enough for it to completely submerge in.

polystyrene is the way forward. get a piece of old polystyrene and cut to roughly fit the terrarium. cut out the channel in the polystyrene for where you want the water to flow. then cover in tile grout. strong and lightweight. thats the basics.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can cut the polystyrene to make pools, deeper/shallower areas etc. you can also paint it to fit in with the rest of the terrarium. put the stems of fake plants in the polystyrene then cover with tile grout etc.

here’s a link which goes into detail about exactly what you will need to do to make one. this link shows making a basking rock for a desert lizard (bearded dragon) but you can always just cut the polystyrene differently to make a river channel.
